materials

Ceramic pieces are made from porcelain or speckled stoneware.

I use a variety of glazes including luster overglazes, which are 22k gold, white gold, or mother of pearl luster.

Most of my hardware is raw brass, though I use a few pieces that are plated gold over raw brass. Brass is completely nickel free. My studs are stainless steel, which can contain trace amounts of nickel. However, it is still considered hypoallergenic.

Any metal hooks which are fired into the clay are made from NiChrome, which is one of the only types of metal that can withstand the heat of a kiln without melting. This metal is a nickel chromium alloy, but doesn’t come in direct contact with the skin.

Other materials I use include fiber, wood, and glass.

jewelry care

Ceramic is a breakable material and should be treated with the same care as your favorite mug: don’t drop it on hard surfaces, throw it in the bottom of a bag or purse, or toss it around.

Luster glazes are plated onto the ceramic during a kiln firing. Lots of friction can cause the plating to rub or scratch off over time.

Brass can develop a patina over time, but it’s easy to polish. A little lemon juice, vinegar, or a sunshine cloth (available on Amazon) will shine it back up.

Studs and rings are glued directly to the ceramic pieces. I don’t recommend exposing your jewelry to water or humidity as it can weaken the structure of the glue over time. If you need to make a repair, I recommend clear gorilla glue (NOT super glue) or an epoxy glue.
